How adorable are these handmade feather leather earrings?!
I made these chic leather earrings as favors for a baby shower I was hosting for one of my best friends. To view the shower click here.
Would you believe me if I told you all the supplies cost under me $10? Truthfully, there were enough earrings for two dozen women to take home and quite the hit with the girls!
Not only are the earrings extremely affordable they are also rather easy to make if you follow my step by step instructions.
Supplies Needed for Feather Leather Earrings
- Leather – Hobby Lobby sells packages of real genuine leather remnants in their crafting section for around $9 (make sure to use your 40% off coupon). That is exactly what I used for this project. The only downfall is you don’t get to pick out your leather colors, you get what you get. Another option is asking a local upholstery shop if they sell their leather remnants or purchase them from a fabric store.
- Acrylic paint
- Rubbing alcohol
- Painters tape
- Fish Hook Earrings
- 9mm Cord Crimps
- Fine Point Permanent Marker
- Paintbrush
- Needle Nose Pliers
- Scissors

Step-By-Step Instructions
- Cut out Dazzling Hospitality’s Pdf Feather Earring Template. Trace the shape onto the back of the leather and smoothly cut out the feathery shape with a sharp pair of scissors. The smoother and crisper the cut the better your earrings will look.
- Gently wipe down the cut pieces using a clean paper towel and rubbing alcohol.
- Allow to fully dry. Next, tape down the feathers onto a clean paintable surface. Making sure the tape is secure by rubbing your finger, pen, or credit card over the top of the tape to achieve that clean crisp line.
- Evenly paint 2 to 3 coats of acrylic paint onto exposed leather. Allow the paint to fully dry before removing the tape.
- Add all hardware using needle nose pliers. Attach the 9mm Cord Crimps to the top tip of the feather by firmly clamping the crimp shut (I first like to slightly open the crimp a bit wider before clamping the crimp down to the leather. I feel like it helps by giving it a wider mouth to grab). Loop the Fish Hook Earrings through the hole, clamp shut.
- Starting from the bottom carefully cut slits with your scissors up both sides stopping at about 3/4th of an inch from the top. How far in and far apart is completely up to you. I like mine small at the bottom and tend to cut a little deeper in as I get closer to the top.
- Wear them! Gift them! Share them with your friends!!!
