Quick and Easy Thanksgiving Pumpkin Centerpiece

You can thank my awesome friend Sadie for this beautiful floral arrangement idea. She’s the one that suggested I use a pumpkin as a vessel.

Sadie and I were partners a few years ago. Co-chair’s actually, in charge of a huge non-profit social event held at the hospital for all of the new incoming medical staff. I believe we had over 140 people in attendance. It was the first time I’ve ever been in charge of a corporate function and Sadie and I worked well together. We made the perfect pair! That event helped spark a lifelong friendship.

Before I knew Sadie, she worked in a boutique and floral shop in Chattanooga for many years. Together we have decorated for many functions and she has taught some of her floral arrangement tricks along the way.  Thanks to her teaching me, I can now pass it on to you!

Let me show you how this easy it is to make this Thanksgiving pumpkin centerpiece!

First, cut off the top of your pumpkin and scoop out the insides. Place your oasis in water and allow it to fully soak before placing it inside your pumpkin. For a video tutorial on how to do so click here. Carefully cut the oasis down with a knife so it will fit snuggly and evenly inside your pumpkin vessel.

Next, add in your greenery. For this arrangement I used fresh eucalyptus. I only needed to use a couple of branches to cover the bottom base for this Thanksgiving pumpkin centerpiece. I wanted it to look free and overflowing.

A trick Sadie has taught me about floral arranging is not to worry about it being perfect. Reason being that nothing in nature is perfect. So true right?!? I find this comforting because really if you’re not expecting perfection than what do you have to lose?

Second, determine how tall and wide you want your arrangement to be. The best way to begin is by adding your strongest focal point and/or focal point flowers (usually the largest flowers) in at first to help build the structure. Think big first then little (little are usually your filler flowers).

Note: If you don’t like something just pull it out and start over. It really is that simple!

For this Thanksgiving pumpkin centerpiece, I wanted that spiral copper dazzle to be the tallest point of my design as I found it eye-catching. I staggered in the bushels Alstroemeria flowers in next along with slightly shorter daisy pom poms to the sides. This gave me an ideal base to work with. When cutting down your flowers to place them into your arrangement, be sure to cut them at a 45-degree angle. This will help keep them looking fresh longer.

Lastly, add in your fillers. Using the slightly smaller florals, bushels of greenery, foliage, and wheat plug them into the holes of your design. Another one of Sadies tips is to take a step back and look at it from different angles and adjust the florals around as you go. Due to the centerpiece being placed in the center of the table, what may look great on one side could look funny on the other side. Whalla! Now you have a beautiful Thanksgiving pumpkin centerpiece for your Thanksgiving Tablescape!
